Starting with the layout
I planned the proportions, frame, drawers, work surface, and feature locations together. That gave the electronics somewhere to live before I started cutting wood.

A desk with a few things hidden inside.

Entry notes
I made this when I was 16. I drew the desk around how I wanted to use it, built the frame and drawers, then worked a charger, a magnetic display, and some hidden storage into the top.
I planned the proportions, frame, drawers, work surface, and feature locations together. That gave the electronics somewhere to live before I started cutting wood.
The frame, cabinet, drawers, top, trim, and lift-up sections all had to stay aligned as the desk came together. These photos are mostly from before the finish went on.
The magnetic display sits beneath one area of the top, the phone charger works through the wood, and the compartments keep the mechanisms out of the way.
